The forests of the San Jacinto wilderness are awesome! In those early days it was like getting a glimpse of what the Sierra might be like. I got some really great campsites in this area despite some spooky Cougar stuff. Not to mention Idyllwild was so incredible and easily one of my favorite trail towns. This year the trail was closed 15 or so miles beyond Highway 10 near Cabazon and we couldn’t progress any further due to a fire closure, so hikers had to skip that section and hitchhike their way up to Big Bear (though some risked a highway walk). It was disappointing, that would have been one hell of a climb.
